Kitchen - well soon hopefully!

This week we are hoping to see some movement on our new kitchen.  We have been at this stage for what seems like forever.  Its not helped when the builder, the electrician and the plumber all go on holiday at the same time.  Still they are all back now, so we hoping to see a big change this week.

As a result of all this building sewing seems to have ground to a halt!

Leftovers quilts

Don't you just love it when you get leftovers from one project that make another?

Fat quarter quilt

I don't know about anyone else but I have found myself with huge stack of fat quarters, I just don't know where they all come from!  Well obviously I do but my husband doesn't need to know this.  So came up with this little quilt to to try and use some of them up.  Six fat quarters later and I had got all the measurements sorted (maths was never my strongest subject).  We are doing this in club this morning so I will post some pictures of what we manage to get done.

Jelly roll

Latest jelly roll quilt, enjoyed this one although I have to say it isn't particularly accurate.  Made between work and home and the measuring wasn't very good, I had to make some alterations as I went along.  Its laid out on top of our roof tiles that will, very shortly I hope, go onto our new kitchen extension.

Look what Sandra finished, isn't it lovely?

Now that's better!

Ok, changed the thread colour to a cream on Traceys advice and what a difference!  Was trying to hard with the red I think, much as I loved the Magnifico thread.  Sticking with the mussels, and then some wavey lines. Am really pleased with it, its not brilliant but it is getting better all the time.

My phone keeps deleting all my photos for some reason, so I lost all my photos from the jelly roll race day unfortunately.  Oh well, we may just have to do it again!

Winner.

So Lorinda was the winner of our jelly roll race, not sure of the exact time but it was roughly an hour and a half.  We had a great day, will post more quilt tops when I can figure out how to down load photos from my phone to the computer!

Let's try again!

Jelly roll race day!

What a hive of activity.

I know!

Yes I do know that the picture doesn't show feathers! I haven't lost it completely you know.  I was just trying another option, and I wasn't happy with that one either so that had to come out too.  Any  suggestions are welcome....Pp

That stitch ripper says it all.

Well.....its not going well!  I have wasted an afternoon completely.  I can do feathers, I can - really!  But I have ripped out two lots this afternoon, and that's no easy thing.  Maybe I am being too hard on my self, we never do that do we??  I think my problem is not that I can't do feathers, its more the restriction of the throat space.  To complete the circle of feathers I have to move the quilt backwards and forwards and that is not conducive to maintaining a flow at all.  May have to have rethink about the design.  Back to the drawing board.  Oh, the thread is great to sew with but not to unpick!  Will talk more about it when I am not quite so fed up with my efforts.

Colour!

What a great colour this is, just arrived from Martha.  Can't wait to get started now.  Its a new range by Superior Threads called Magnifico.  Its a lovely vibrant colour, perfect for what I want, and a great price too.  Will let you know how I get on.

Twisted four patch

Had a great workshop this week, it was on Monday and here is Sue with her quilt to just about finished apart from one or two border issues.  It looks great, such pretty fabric.

Kids on half term this week so life a little calmer thank goodness.  Managed to get the next quilt on the frame ready to go.  I have been practising the feathers and there is a vast improvement.  Now just have to work on feathers around a circle.

What's next?

So what's next onto the frame?  Well, have been thinking of doing this one.  Its been finished for a while bar the mitred corners and just done those now.  Typically I want to use a red thread and I don't have one, which means a quick call to Martha.  Also contemplating some feathers - now that's scarry!

I am itching to get out in the garden to clear up some of the dead leaves and prune back some bushes but all my gardening gurus at work are telling me to leave it a while yet.  It is so cold today, that wind has a nasty bite.

Went to see Dgango at the cinema last night, not my choice I hasten to add.  The film was quite good, but complete over use of the ketchup in my view and not really necessary.  There were a couple of scenes that I looked away from and the noises were as bad as watching I am sure.  Now Les Miserables the week before was as hard a watch but in a different way - I am sure I was outright sobbing at one point!

Look who came to visit.

Wallace and Grommit have come to visit Franklins, aren't they brilliant?

Lighting issues!

A big problem at the moment - lighting!   There is a distinct lack of it and you would think with all that white stuff it wouldn't be a problem.  This is the best shot I can get of the quilting at the moment.  On the whole I am really pleased with it, thread was great and the pattern worked - sort of anyway.  Set off for work yesterday and only got half a mile from home and then had to turn round and come home, nearly had to abandon the car and walk at one point as well.  An hour and three quarters for less than a mile, crazy!

Theory and practise

Ok, so I went with the King Tut in the end.  The colour was perfect  just what I wanted, and it is great through the machine, which always makes life easier.  This was my practise run with pen and paper, and I was quite pleased with the look of that.  The actual quilting of it though was another thing.  I started out alright, and then I got abit confused and it seemed to become something different, and then I got a grip of myself and it came back to this again.

Good job its mine!!

Auditioning.

You know that feeling?  All that fabric  and I still don't have the right colour !!

Audition.

Just auditioning threads for a little quilt that's on the frame.  Threads from Martha, three options to choose from.  And then I have to decide what to quilt on it.   Its all decisions round here!!!
